so , the other day , I'm discussing music with a younger friend (who shall remain nameless) , and I mentioned Primus . he said " Never heard of 'em ." I couldn't believe my ears . Never heard of Primus !?! Well , my nameless friend , here are but a few representative samples ...

Oh, I'd heard the name but for some reason thought they were bad kiddy metal-pop like Linkin Park or something. I wonder who I was confusing them with.

I went to high school with a girl who had an old Dodge Tradesman van in matte (primer) yellow with "PRIMUS SUCKS" rattle-canned all over the sides. A true fan.

Fun fact: Primus was and still is the only band to have a label/genre just for them in Winamp (ID3 tag).. While other bands would be put under Rock, Heavy Metal, Grunge and so on.. primus was just Primus :)

This is "the band" between my girlfriend and me. We see them every time they roll through, and we're currently trying to figure out how to make Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweakers the song for our first dance without pissing everyone off ;)

I first started listening to Primus in 1992 or so - Whenever Pork Soda came out and Seas of Cheese was their Oeuvre Magnifique. Right after my 17th birthday, I saw them with Helmet and some opening band I can't remember. It was the day Jerry Garcia died — August 9, 1995.
It was my first concert ever, and I got in trouble with my parents for not coming home that night, but it was worth it. We ended up at a drum circle memorial for Jerry at Freedom Park, my friend stole a bansai tree from a gas station, and we were asked to leave a Denny's at about 4 AM on a Thursday morning because we were too loud.
Then, in my senior year of high school, my English class was studying classical ballads and story songs from the middle ages. We had to analyze and present a modern song that fit the genre. I used, "John the Fisherman," and a friend of mine used, "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver."
